Living Environment 9-A Grade Expectations

2013-2014

 

KEEP THIS SHEET IN THE FRONT OF YOUR

BINDER AT ALL TIMES FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

 

I.    REQUIRED MATERIALS are:

 

Ø  a RED three-ring loose-leaf binder,

Ø  a set of dividers (5) for the binder,

Ø  issued textbook (to be covered),

Ø  2 Pens (blue or black ONLY) and #2 pencils,

Ø  a pencil case for the binder, and

Ø  a regents review book to be purchased at school when available (costs about $12.00).

 

II.  RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Ø  Come to class on time & prepared to work.

Ø  Take out your cell phone, turn it off, and place it on the upper right-hand portion of your desk.

Ø  Bring your red binder with paper, pens, #2 pencils, and assignments.

Ø  Be respectful to your teacher and classmates.

Ø  Take accurate class notes.

Ø  Complete homework assignments & laboratory reports on time.

Ø  Make up missed work due to absences.

Ø  Report for extra help when needed.

Ø  Study for tests & quizzes, and

Ø  Follow directions of your teacher.

 

III. GRADING is based upon:

 

1.      Homework (10%) will be:

Ø  given 4 times per week according to a normal school schedule.

Ø  comprised of preparation work, studying, reading, review work, completion of labs, or assigned projects

Ø  posted on the chalkboard, or obtained by going online to:

2.      Laboratory Reports/Projects (15%):

Ø  will be given about once per week,

Ø  must be read prior to the lab,

Ø  are due the next lab period, and 

Ø  10 points per day will be deducted for late work.

 


STATE LAB REQUIREMENTS:  30 lab hours are required to be satisfactorily completed in order for students to take the June Regents exam.  A grade of “0” will be given to students not meeting this requirement.

 

3.       Class Participation (10%):

Ø  Students will be called upon to answer questions.

Ø  “Do Nows” must be done with the appropriate heading at the beginning of class.

Ø  Being unprepared, calling out, disruption, and lateness will result in deductions from these points.

 

4.      Quizzes (10%):

Ø  will be announced and unannounced,

Ø  can consist of Do Nows & certain homework assignments

 

5.      Tests (55%):

Ø  will always be announced in advance, and

Ø  can consist of certain projects.

      On the average:  one quiz or test will be given each week.

           

IV.  ABSENCE:

Ø  Students must ask the teacher what work was missed, and discuss the make up date for any missing work.

 

FAILURE TO MAKE UP MISSED WORK MAY RESULT IN A LOWERED OR FAILING GRADE.

 

        V.  EXTRA HELP:

Ø  Students should set up an appointment with the teacher for specific times.

Ø  National Honors Society Tutors can be provided if necessary.

      Your first homework assignment is to have this signed and returned to me by tomorrow. This will be kept in the front of your red binders for reference.
